Couldn't get to iconic Whistler in the winter? Maybe you just hate the cold? We took an impromptu weekend getaway in September to Whistler, BC, our first time in Whistler in the summer (yes it's still summer here in BC) and we liked it more than the winter! we'll be back!
How to Get to Whistler
car: ~1.5 hour highway drive from vancouver. beautiful scenery. careful of traffic - it can be very frustrating
bus: there are many options. check them here
air: harbour air float plane: lands and departs from green Lake, 3km north of whistler village. complimentary shuttle service to the village
What are Whistler's Best Hotels?
There are many amazing hotels in Whistler but we wanted to try the Four Seasons for their famous beds, and it did not disappoint! We got the deluxe four seasons executive suite. separate king bedroom, 2 bathrooms and most importantly, nespresso machine.
tips: nightly wine tasting from 4-6pm. complimentary snow cone bar
things to know: 10 minute easy walk to blackcomb village

There are so many great places to eat, but these two places stood out for us
locally sourced pacific northwest menu
get:
cocktails:
lucy in the sky
up the creek
food:
caviar: first time trying it! very fun and delicious - they have a whole menu to choose from and are helpful to newbies
oysters: because you're in the pacific northwest. great selection
grilled octopus & pork belly: all the good things on one plate
tip: walk-ins for dinner at the bar and lounge but be there early at 5PM or for the second seating around 8PM

contemporary italian
get:
food:
lobster & saffron linguine: creamiest, most delicious sauce i've had. that was made with love (and cream....lots of delicious, creamy cream)
bistecca all fiorentina: enough to feed an army (or shayna & i). huge steak with all the sides. we had leftovers for post-mountain biking the next day. that polenta tho

Best Things To Do in Whistler in the Summer
Everyone thinks outdoors when thinking of Whistler, and while that's true, there are a lot of other things to do for people like us who prefer that après lifestyle.
that pendant life:
trail, downhill, or road - it's all available. But if you're going to the trouble of going to whistler, you should downhill. we tried it for the first time and are hooked!
where to get rentals: everywhere - ask your hotel for who they partner with - they'll have discounts. also check online for discounts
trails: take the lift up and the trails are marked by difficulty green, blue and black diamond, just like for the ski hills. we did the green trails all day and they were totally manageable for 2 complete beginners.
tip: getting on the chair lift with a bike for the first time is tricky! ask the liftees to help you. you've been warned!
yeah wtf right? but it's a great excursion that lasts 90 minutes. totally worth it. we got up to 92km/hr! we were hooked and will be back to try it in the winter. remember to ask them how they find future bobsledders and lugers.
the tour: includes lots of information and you get to walk the track - very cool!
the ride: a trained pilot takes you down on modified bobsleighs fitted with wheels. 60 seconds, 90km/hr. pure adrenaline. out pilot was a neufie so we knew it would be good
tips:
all proceeds go to support the local Canadian athletes and olympic hopefuls
ask them how they recruit the new sledders
hiking
so many trails of all difficulties are available. don't forget to check nearby areas like squamish & pemberton
watersports:
people always forget that the whistler area is littered with lakes and rivers
that après life:
restaurants: see above. next time we want to try:
spas:
scandinave spa whistler: worth a visit winter or summer
whistler is definitely worth a visit in the summer. lots to do, see and eat without the bitter cold snow! here's a reel of our trip!
